Used Personal Effects

New Zealand Customs

Personal effects by definition are goods that are privately owned and have been owned and used by a person.  Personal effects can be imported into New Zealand duty free as long as they fit in with the customs definition of personal effects which will include an amount of time the goods have been owned for.  Check out the New Zealand customs website for complete information, CLICK HERE for New Zealand Customs Information.

Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI)

The MPI laws in New Zealand are very strict and all shipping containers with personal effects entering into New Zealand must go to an MPI authorised depot for unloading and inspection. Have a look at the MPI regulation HERE on the MPI website.

New Items

For new items, receipts may be required by Customs. Wines, spirits, tobacco and goods which have been owned and used for less than six months must be declared on the customs form and may be subject to Customs duty and taxes.
