If you have ever contemplated self loading a container to move from Australia to New Zealand and thought it’s simply too difficult, think again. Self packing international moving containers is a very real option for the majority of people.
Our Kiwi cousins moving to New Zealand have discovered how easy and most importantly how cheap it is to move to New Zealand by doing all that hard work themselves.
The process usually starts with you calling the full service international movers to gauge the expected price shock to move overseas. Before offering you a quote, these international movers will first want to provide you with an “obligation free survey” of your worldly possession to gauge the volume and to estimate the container size, be it a 20’ or a 40’ container.
So you allow these people into your home and they may spend 20-30 minutes on average evaluating the space and services you may or may not require. They go away and then hit you with a jaw-dropping price whilst at the same time trying to upsell you to buy products and service you simply may not want or indeed need. This is the beginning of the hard sell process you have welcomed into your private space.
This is fine if you want to WASTE your hard earned cash. If you want to SAVE your hard earned cash, read on.
Our process is different and remarkably simple.
Firstly, you determine the container size you will need, 20’ or 40’. Here is a simple list based on the average sized home contents:
20’ Containers will fit:
The average 2-3 bedroom home or
A 1 bedroom home with a sedan
40’ Containers will fit:
The average 4-5 bedroom home or
A 3-4 bedroom home and sedan or
A 1-2 bedroom home and 2 sedans
Once you have been decided on a self loading container service and you have booked your dates and we have confirmed them, we will send to you:
1. A blank packing list for your to complete (this will be invaluable as you will need a completed packing list for both NZ Customs and NZ MPI)
2. A “How to” guide to help you load the container safely and how to best maximise the space so wasted space is kept to a minimum
3. A vehicle declaration form (if you are loading one)
An empty container is delivered to your private property by container sideloader, click this LINK to see how these magnificent trucks deliver and collect containers.
Depending of the shipping line vessel schedules at the time of your anticipated container loading, you will have between 3-5 days to load the container. Of course you can also load it in 1 day if you wish.
The loaded container is collected, weighed and delivered to the export terminal and we arrange the export Customs clearance in Australia. Within a matter of days, the container arrives in New Zealand awaiting the import clearance process.
As you can see, the process is incredibly simple, self loading a container to New Zealand with your own worldly possessions is not rocket science, something the international movers certainly don’t want you to explore.
